FAYETTEVILLE, NC – Christopher Newport’s football team was selected by the coaches to finish first in the 2008 USA South Preseason Football poll, the conference announced Tuesday at its annual media day.

CNU received five first place votes for 47 points. Ferrum was picked second and received two first place votes. NC Wesleyan, the reigning conference champion, received the final first place vote and was picked to finish fourth.

The Captains have claimed a share of the USA South title five times. Christopher Newport finished 7-3 overall and 6-1 in the conference in 2007.

CNU kicks off the 2008 season Saturday, September 6 when the Captains host Wesley at 1 pm.
