The official web site of the Academic Support for Athletics contains information that serves our current student-athletes, prospective student-athletes, and parents. It provides an in-depth look at the services that are offered to support Christopher Newport University student-athletes to succeed, not only on the playing fields and courts, but in the classroom.
Athletics Academic Support supports our student-athletes' wide range of tutoring needs. We generally hire graduate students to work with our program. Exceptions to this rule may occur when an instructor recommends a qualified undergraduate student or no graduate students can be found for the position. All tutors are required to have a 3.0 GPA in their undergraduate studies.
We ask that our tutors have good availability and work depending on our needs. Graduate students can earn up to $15 per hour and undergraduate students can earn up to $12 per hour. Tutorial sessions are held at the request of the student athlete as well as the Director of Academic Support.
All qualified and interested prospects should complete the on-line application and e-mail it to Jenny Nuttycombe at jnutty@cnu.edu. All mentors/tutors hired are required to attend a tutorial training session prior to working with any student-athlete.
