LYNCHBURG, Va. - CNU's 14th-ranked field hockey team went on the road Thursday and used a pair of early goals to knock off eighth-ranked Lynchburg, 2-1.
Lynchburg's Erin Funkhouser got the Hornets on the board in less than six minutes, but then Kylie Cale evened the count with an assist from Taylor Herrell. Just a minute and 24 seconds later Katelyn Yandle's unassisted goal gave CNU the lead and completed the scoring just 11:06 into the match.
The victory lifted CNU to 13-3 on the year and was their second win over a ranked team in less than a week, following a victory over then-14th ranked Johns Hopkins last Saturday.
Goalie Emma Stout made seven saves as Lynchburg lost for just the third time in 18 contests.
The Captains return home to meet Limestone Saturday at 11:30.
