NEWPORT NEWS, VA – Christopher Newport's women's tennis team earned a tough and hard-fought 5-4 win over Elizabeth City St. Wednesday afternoon on the CNU Courts.
In doubles, Kayla Connor and Alannah Suchomel (CNU) defeated Christina McLean and April Whitaker 8-5 at No. 1; Kassi Avent and Megan Brooks (CNU) defeated Krystan Fleming and Tiffany Brown 8-4; and Lauren Lee and Phyllis King upended Dana Burns and Mary Ann Feeney (CNU) 8-3 at No. 3.
In singles, Connor (CNU) defeated McLean 6-3, 6-0; Fleming defeated Suchomel (CNU) 6-4, 6-2 at No. 2; Avent (CNU) defeated Whitaker 6-4, 6-2; Brown took Brooks (CNU) to three sets and came away with the win, 2-6, 7-6 (7-4), 1-0 (11-9) at No. 4; Lee defeated Burns (CNU) 6-3, 6-3; and Feeney (CNU) dropped King 6-3, 6-1 at No. 6.
The Vikings fall to 7-4 while the Captains improve to 5-4. CNU returns to action Saturday when they host Averett at 12 pm.
