BURLINGTON, NC – Christopher Newport’s softball squad advanced to the winner’s bracket championship game with a 3-1 win over Peace.
The Pacers pushed across a run in the top of the first, but the Captains scored all three of their runs in the bottom of the third. Ashley Mani tied the score with an RBI single that scored Emily Garcia. Mary Kennedy reached on a fielder’s choice, stole second and advanced to third on an error and came around to score on an error as well. Jessie Atkinson’s RBI single put CNU on top by two.
Garcia, Renee Ashworth, Atkinson, Taylor Morgan, Kennedy and Mani all had one hit each for Christopher Newport.
Kristen Rowe improved to 19-1 by tossing a complete-game, allowing one run on five hits, walked one and struck out 10.
Peace falls to 19-18 while CNU is now 33-5.
The Captains will meet Shenandoah at 4 pm for the right to go to the USA South Tournament title game.
