Women's Tennis Falls 7-2 To Shenandoah

NEWPORT NEWS, VA – Christopher Newport’s women’s tennis squad dropped a 7-2 decision on the CNU Courts to Shenandoah Wednesday afternoon.

In singles, Colleen Hightower defeated Kayla Connor (CNU) 6-4, 6-1 at No. 1; Briana Malley defeated Alannah Suchomel (CNU) 6-1, 6-2; Brittany Bascope defeated Kassi Avent (CNU) 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3; Aliisa Altau defeated Megan Brooks (CNU) 6-0, 6-1; Jessica Putman upended Dana Burns (CNU) 6-3, 6-1 at No. 5; and Mary Ann Feeney (CNU) defeated Evgenia Gelikanova 6-0, 6-0.

In doubles, Hightower and Malley defeated Connor and Suchomel (CNU) 8-5; Bascope and Altau defeated Avent and Brooks (CNU) 8-2 at No. 2; and Burns and Feeney (CNU) defeated Putman and Gelikanova 8-1.

The Hornets improve to 8-5 overall and 6-2 in USA South action. The Captains fall to 7-5 on the year and 5-2 in conference play.

Christopher Newport returns to action Thursday as they travel to Raleigh, NC to conclude the suspended match against Peace.
