Softball To Open NCAA Regionals With Bridgewater

NEWPORT NEWS, VA – Christopher Newport’s softball squad will head to Salisbury, MD and play Bridgewater College in an opening round contest Thursday at 10 am.
The Captains are 35-7 and champions of the USA South. It’s the third straight season and sixth time CNU has advanced to the NCAA.
The Eagles are 33-9 and received an at-large bid into the NCAA Tournament. These two teams have met twice, with Bridgewater sweeping the doubleheader back on April 22. Thursday’s meeting will be the 16th all-time. The Eagles lead the series, 8-7.
Lynchburg (37-6-1) is the top seed in this seven-team regional and received a bye. In other first day games, host team Salisbury (34-4) will meet Neumann (30-10) and Emory (30-10) takes on LaGrange (25-19).
