ASHLAND, VA – Christopher Newport men's lacrosse player Ryan Merrell was named Second Team All-State, VaSID announced Wednesday.
Merrell, a senior from Burke, VA, led the Captains with 30 goals and finished second with 35 points. He finished his career as CNU's all-time leading scorer. He was also second on the team in ground balls with 57.
First Team members were attackers Zach Thomas (Roanoke), Tyler Tolson (Lynchburg) and Will Keigler (Washington & Lee). Chas Carlson (Roanoke), Harry St. John (Washington & Lee) and Kyle Jett (Hampden-Sydney) were first team midfielders. Stephen Simmons (Roanoke) was the first team long stick midfielder. First team defenders were Sam Love (Roanoke), James Shannan (Washington & Lee) and Daniel Martin (Hampden-Sydney). The goalie was Connor Locke from Washington & Lee
Second team members were Pat March (Roanoke), Dylan Hoff (Lynchburg) and Andrew Mahoney (Hampden-Sydney) at attack. Midfielders were Seldon Clarke (Washington & Lee), Drew Langis (VA Wesleyan), Brent Fisk (Mary Washington) and Merrell. Defenders were Jeff Eggeling (Lynchburg) and Shane Roscher (Lynchburg). Roanoke's Jake Dorsey was the goalkeeper.
HSC's St. John was named the Player of the Year. Hoff was named the Rookie of the Year and Bill Pilat from Roanoke was named Coach of the Year.
The Captains finished 8-7 for the second straight season.
