VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. – Christopher Newport opened its 2009 cross country season with a split of the women's and men's races in a dual meet at Virginia Wesleyan Tuesday.
The CNU women posted a perfect score of 15 by taking all of the top five places. CNU won, 15-43.
Senior Amy Wampler placed first in the women's 4.5K race in a time of 17:50. Sophomore Jade Zaharoff was second in 18:02 and was followed across the line by sophomore Dira Hansen (3rd, 18:25), senior Liz Bissell (4th, 18:36) and senior Brooke Rowe (5th, 18:41).
On the men's side VWC won 23-33. The Captains' top finisher was sophomore Corey Lofton who placed 3rd overall in 19:07 for 6K. Freshman Aaron Zook was 6th with a time of 20:12 and sophomore Will Kirk took seventh place in 20:26.
CNU remains idle until participating in the William & Mary Colonial Inter-Regional on Sept. 26.
