SALISBURY, Md. – The CNU women's track and field team scored a big victory in the Mason-Dixon Conference championships Saturday, while the men's team battled for second place.
The women scored a total of 232 points, to easily outdistance second place Salisbury which scored 140. The CNU men totaled 149.50 to finish second to Salisbury which had 195.
Dira Hansen led a parade of 11 individual event championships won by CNU women, along with one relay.
Hansen took titles in the 100 hurdles (1:05.51), high jump (5-1) and triple jump (37-1) and ran with the victorious 4X400 relay along with Kristen Bell, Joia Swanson and Shannon Walker.
Distance runner Liz Bissell also claimed two titles. She won the 5000 (18:49.26) and 10,000 (39:13.95) to complete a big day.
Also winning for CNU were Walker (400, 58:31), Laurie Murphy (1500, 4:49.96), Kalee Hammerton (pole vault, 10-0) and Adrianna Carter (hammer, 146-7).
David Woodson led the men by claiming two titles. He won the 1500 (4:06.95) and 10,000 (33:06.62).
Richard Roethel won the long jump (23-5 ¼), Kwarteng Asare took the triple jump (47-11) and Chris Banks the hammer (156-8).
CNU hosts the New Captains Classic next Saturday and Sunday.
