SALISBURY, MD –Kenny Moreland, a 2008 graduate of CNU, was named the South Atlantic League Pitcher of the Week for June 14 through June 20. Moreland is playing for the Delmarva Shorebirds, a class "A" affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles.
On June 14 against Kannapolis, he tossed a seven-inning shutout. The Intimidators managed only three hits and only two base runners advanced beyond first. In his most recent start on June 19 against Lexington, the 24-year old hurled an eight-inning gem. He allowed just two hits and an unearned run. Moreland retired 14 batters in a row between the third and seventh innings and dispatched of 17 of the final 18 batters he faced.
Moreland has won three straight starts and finished the first half of the season with a 3-2 mark and 2.78 ERA.
During his career at CNU, Moreland compiled a 35-9 record with 378 strikeouts in 359.1 innings and had a career 2.25 ERA. During his senior year, he earned 1st team All-America honors and was named the Division III National Pitcher of the Year by the American Baseball Coaches Association.
