NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - The Christopher Newport University men's and women's track teams set 44 personal records in the New Captain's Classic and Combined Events. In addition, six performances were added to CNU's all-time list.
Samuel Martin and
Daniel Richard qualified for the USATF National Championships with their performances today. Richard's 6:22.63 in the 2000m steeplechase earned him a spot while Martin's time of 4:56.70 in the 1500m also earned him a fourth place spot on CNU's all-time list. Richard and Martin will join
Donovan Lewin who qualified in the 10k at the Colonial Relays earlier this season.
Also earning spots on the program's all-time list were
Kendrick McMinn and
Enuma Ezenwa. McMinn is now in the No. 5 spot in the men's javelin with his score of 48.09m (157-9). Ezenwa improved her No. 10 spot score with a 1.56m (5-1.25) in the women's heptathlon high jump.
Ezenwa won the heptathlon with 3,618 points putting her at the No. 4 spot on the all-time list. Following Ezenwa was
Noel Bartley with 3,326 points that improved her standings as CNU's No. 7 all-time.
Dira Hansen won the 400m hurdles with a 1:03.12. The women's 4x100m relay team beat out Salisbury for first place with a time of 49.85.
Jenna Elliott and Hansen finished one-two in the high jump with marks of 1.60m (5-3.0) and 1.55m (5-1.0) respectively.
Karen Bumiller's time of 19:15.24 in the 5000m was good for fifth place at the meet and 8th on CNU's all-time list.
The men's team finished first in three events.
Robert Mayes won the 400m coming in at 50.27, followed by
Matt Gaddy at 50.71. Martin's 3:56.7 in the 1500m gave him first place and Richard's time of 6:22.63 earned him a first place finish.
