CNU Track & Field Opens Up the 2013-14 Indoor Season on Saturday with the Holiday Open

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- The Christopher Newport track & field program will kick off the 2013-14 campaign on Saturday when the Captains host the annual Holiday Open beginning at 9 a.m. at the Freeman Center.

Saturday's field events will open up with the men's weight throw at 9 a.m. before the long jump begins one hour later. Track events will start with the 5000 meters at 11 a.m. and run all the way through the distance medley relay, which will begin at 7:30 p.m.

For fans unable to make it to Saturday's meet, a live stream of the action will be available at CNUsports.com/Live. Live results will also be available for the Holiday Open. A direct link can be found on the track & field schedule page.

The meet will feature competitors from over 15 colleges from around the region. It will also serve as the opener for the Captains, who swept the 2012-13 Mason-Dixon Indoor and Outdoor Championships before transitioning to the Capital Athletic Conference this year.

On the men's side, Daulton Teaford will return to the track after earning All-American nods following a fifth-place finish in the 200 during last year's outdoor National Championships. Samuel Martin, Robert Mayes, and Daniel Richard will also make their season debuts after claiming conference titles during the 2012-13 campaign. Martin won the Mason-Dixon outdoor 800 meters, Mayes claimed the 400, and Richard snagged the steeplechase crown while earning All-Conference accolades in the indoor mile and distance medley relay.

The women also welcome back several decorated veterans, including Enuma Ezenwa, who competed in the 2013 National Championships and won the indoor conference titles in the 400 and 4x400. Jennifer Westerholm is also back after claiming league crowns in the indoor triple jump and 4x400, while Taylor McCord also starred on the team's top relay squad from last year. Jenna Elliott returns as well after winning the Mason-Dixon indoor high jump title.

Saturday's meet will be Christopher Newport's lone competition before the team returns to action on January 18 for the Maryland Invitational and Ramapo College Indoor Meet.
