Belle Tunstall Earns NFHCA All-American Honors for the Second Time in Her Career

CHANDLER, Ariz. -- For the second time in her career, Belle Tunstall has been named an All-American by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association after securing third-team honors following an outstanding senior campaign for the Christopher Newport field hockey team.

After also earning first-team NFHCA honors in 2013, Tunstall is now the fifth player in program history to collect All-American accolades twice in her career. She joins Jacque Mayer, Kim Tomlin, Caitlin Cahill, and Marlene Lichty as the only players to accomplish the feat twice.

Capping off one of the most decorated careers in CNU history, Tunstall pieced together a tremendous senior campaign. Electric on the attack, she led the Captains with seven goals, six assists, and 20 points. Among her highlights, she posted game-winning goals against Denison in the season opener on August 30 and in overtime against St. Mary's on October 21.

Consistent throughout the year, she opened the season with an incredible run. In three of the team's first four contests, Tunstall registered a goal and an assist. She also posted two goals and a pair of helpers at Ferrum on September 26 before scoring in back-to-back league contests against St. Mary's and Frostburg State during a crucial stretch late in October.

Overall, Tunstall posted at least one point in seven games and helped lead the Captains to a pristine 7-0 record during those contests.

Guided by her efforts in 2014, Tunstall set nearly every offensive record in CNU history. She established new career marks with 115 points and 33 assists. The Vienna, Virginia native also equaled Wendy Wilson's all-time record with 41 career goals. Along with her offensive exploits, she also ranks third all-time with 78 games played and 10th with 61 career starts.

In addition to her two All-American awards, Tunstall was also a two-time first-team All-Conference and All-Region selection. Last season, during her junior campaign, she was named the Conference, State, and Region Player of the Year. She also was named to the NCAA All-Tournament Team for her performance in 2013 and earned a spot in the NFHCA Senior All-Star Game this year.

During her time in Newport News, Tunstall helped lead Christopher Newport to three NCAA Tournament appearances, including a run to the Final Four in 2013.
