Galvin and Marshall Earn First-Team IWLCA All-Region Honors; Johnson Collects Second-Team Accolades

GRAND LAKE, Colo. -- Meaghan Galvin and Ashton Marshall received first-team All-Region accolades, while Emily Johnson secured second-team honors from the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association after the three standouts pieced together record-breaking campaigns for the Christopher Newport women's lacrosse team.

The three honorees are the most in a single season in program history. Marshall also becomes just the second Captain to earn first-team honors twice in her career, while Galvin is the first freshman to receive All-Region nods. The two first-team selections are also the most ever by the Captains.

Earning All-Region honors for the third time in her career, Marshall was a second-team honoree as a sophomore before collecting first-team nods in 2013 and 2014. The most prolific scorer in CNU history, she wrapped up her decorated career with an impressive senior campaign. The Round Hill native tied for the league lead with 80 points and ranked third with 58 goals.

Overall, Marshall concluded her run with 247 career goals, which established a new CNU record. She also stands second all-time with 319 points and sixth with 72 assists. A four-time first-team All-Conference selection, she matched the single-season program record with 76 goals last year and holds seven of the program's top-10 single-game scoring outputs.

Galvin also earned first-team honors after her tremendous freshman campaign. Honored as the CAC Rookie of the Year, the Arlington native ranked sixth in the league with 61 points and seventh with 42 goals. She also led the team and finished third in the conference with 66 draw controls. That total established a new CNU freshman record and stands as the second-most by any Captain in program history.

Also a first-team All-Conference honoree, Galvin established a new single-season program record with 17 free-position goals. Overall, she posted at least two goals in each of her first 14 appearances, which stands as the longest run to open a career in CNU history. She eventually recorded at least one point in all 16 of her games.

Johnson also came through a record-breaking performance on the defensive end. During her senior season, the Gainesville native set a new single-season program record and finished second in the CAC with 40 caused turnovers. She also led the Captains with 54 ground balls and set new personal-bests with seven goals and seven assists on the offensive end.

A two-time first-team All-Conference selection, Johnson leaves as the program's all-time leader with 89 career caused turnovers. She also ranks fourth in CNU history with 152 ground balls. In 69 career games, she collected 34 points and 48 draw controls as well.
