SAN JOSE, COSTA RICA- The Christopher Newport University men's basketball squad arrived Monday to begin an eight-day journey exploring Costa Rica and participating in several basketball clinics and exhibition games.
"Our team is thrilled to travel to Costa Rica this summer," Head Coach
John Krikorian said. "We have 11 returning players joining us on the trip and it should be a great opportunity for these guys to grow as young men and leaders while exploring a new culture and competing on the international basketball stage."
The Captains are scheduled to play games Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday as well as take part in community clinics and tours of the area. It is believed to be the first time in the 48-year history of the program the Captains have ventured out of the country for action.
CNU was 19-9 last season and 9-7 in the Capital Athletic Conference, advancing to the league's title game in the first season of CAC membership.
"We are especially appreciative of our alumni and donors whose generosity made this trip possible," Krikorian continued. "I hope all of our fans will follow us on this journey through CNUSports.com, Twitter, and Facebook. Go Captains."
