Rachel Conway, Hannah Miller, and Briana Sutton Earn AVCA First-Team All-Region Honors

LEXINGTON, Ky. -- The Christopher Newport volleyball team was well-represented on the 2015 American Volleyball Coaches Association All-North Region Team as Rachel Conway, Hannah Miller, and Briana Sutton all collected first-team accolades from the AVCA.

All three Captains received the honor for the second straight year after garnering first-team plaudits in 2014 as well.

Piecing together a memorable senior campaign, Conway has been terrific in 2015. Entering the NCAA Tournament, she ranks 12th in the nation with a 10.73 assists-per-set average. That also stands third in CNU history and ranks first in the rally-scoring era. Overall, she has dished out 1,148 assists, which also ranks among the national leaders and currently sits 10th on the program's all-time single-season list.

Effective throughout the year, Conway has notched 40 assists on 12 occasions, including a career-high 62 against No. 4 Emory on September 25. That total also stands seventh on the program's single-match list. A well-rounded talent, the Fairfax native boasts six double-doubles this season and registered 14 digs during the CAC semifinals against St. Mary's on November 5. She ranks second on the team with 35 aces and third with 49 blocks as well.

Placing her name among the elite setters in CNU history, Conway ranks fourth all-time with 3,444 career assists. Her 8.57 assists-per-set average over the past four years also stands second in program history.

Picking up right where she left off last year, Miller has been a formidable presence on the front row for the Captains. Outstanding on both sides of the ball, she currently leads the team and ranks second in the Capital Athletic Conference with a .321 hitting percentage. Meanwhile, she also boasts a 0.87 blocks-per-set average, which places her fourth among CAC competitors and second on the team.

Excellent throughout the year, Miller has posted at least 10 kills on 14 occasions, including six times against teams currently in the NCAA Tournament. She also roped a season-high 17 kills against Salisbury on October 7 before hitting the Sea Gulls with 12 more on just 18 swings in the CAC Championship on November 7. On the defensive end, the Palmyra native has been just as dominant during the year, collecting 92 total blocks, including seven in the CAC semifinals against St. Mary's on November 5.

Already one of the most accomplished middle blockers in CNU history, she ranks fourth all-time with 330 career rejections. Her .302 hitting percentage over the past three years also places her fifth on the program's career list.

Helping anchor Christopher Newport's electric attack, Sutton has put together an incredible season on the outside for the Captains. Blistering the opposition at an impressive rate, she boasts a 4.12 kills-per-set average, which ranks second on the program's all-time single-season list. Overall, she leads the team with 391 kills, and her .313 hitting percentage ranks second on the squad and fourth in the CAC.

During the season, Sutton has posted 24 double-digit kill efforts in 27 appearances. Among her finest efforts, she roped at least 20 kills against three nationally-ranked opponents, including 28 against No. 4 Emory. That ranks as the eighth-highest total in program history and the finest since the NCAA switched to 25-point sets. Equally adept on the defensive end, the Williamsburg native also has seven double-doubles this year and pocketed a career-high 19 digs against Salisbury on October 7.

Quickly climbing the career charts, Sutton became just the fourth junior in CNU history to eclipse the 1000-kill plateau. She currently ranks ninth on the career list with 1,033. Equally impressive, her 3.14 kills-per-set average over the past three years places her seventh on the program's all-time list.

The three All-Region honorees will return to action along with the rest of the Captains on Friday when Christopher Newport kicks off the NCAA Regionals with a 3 p.m. battle against Hunter at Richard Stockton College in Galloway, New Jersey.
