Final Results
WILLIAMSBURG, Va. -- Following a successful indoor campaign, the Christopher Newport track & field teams moved outdoors for the first time this year and pieced together a solid showing on Saturday during the Tribe Invitational hosted by William & Mary at Zable Stadium.
During the daylong meet, three distance runners moved into the top-10 all-time in their respective events, while
Valerie Washington and
Legend Boyesen did the same in the throws.
Lydia Cromwell headlined the day as the junior shaved 96 seconds off her previous PR in the 3000-steeplechase as she placed second with a time of 11:53.91. That performance ranks fifth in CNU history.
Also impressive in the event,
Graciela Slyer placed fourth with a time of 13:05.17. That clocking marked a new personal best and stands 10th all-time at Christopher Newport.
Rounding out the historic efforts, Washington, Boyesen, and
Daniel Richard also shined on Saturday. In the shot, Washington finished third with an 11.54-meter heave, which ranks eighth at CNU. On the men's side, Richard excelled in the 1500 as he placed third in 4:01.63. That sits ninth on the program's all-time list. Later, Boyesen capped off the meet with a 42.23-meter toss in the discus, which ranked third on Saturday and 10th in CNU history.
Along with the all-time performers,
Khiry Weaver and
Wesley Shrieves kept busy during the day. Both standouts eclipsed 1.83-meters in the high jump and notched top-five efforts in other field events. Weaver came in second in the triple jump with a distance of 13.25 meters, while Shrieves placed fifth in the long jump with a 6.38-meter effort.
Robert Graham paced the throwers after finishing sixth in both the javelin and hammer.
Rounding out the men's top finishers,
Jordan Roach finished second in the 100-hurdles with a time of 15.61, while
Corey Rodriguez was fifth in the 400-meter discipline with a time of 59.26.
Billy Rabil also came in fourth in both the 800 and 1500.
On the women's side,
Lillie Cummings made her outdoor debut with a strong showing in the throws. The freshman was fifth in the discus with a distance of 33.02 meters and seventh in the hammer with a 35.35-meter toss. Equally busy,
Danielle Crowley was third in the triple, seventh in the long jump, and 10th in the 100-hurdles.
Logan Harrington also capped off an eventful meet with a fourth-place showing in the 400 after crossing the line in 58.88.
Christopher Newport will return to action on March 27 for the start of the two-day Fred Hardy Invitational in Richmond.
