Hannah Miller Named First-Team AVCA All-North Region

LEXINGTON, Ky. -- For the third time in her career, Hannah Miller has collected All-Region accolades from the American Volleyball Coaches Association after the senior standout picked up first-team All-North honors for her outstanding work with the Christopher Newport volleyball team during the 2016 campaign.

With the award, Miller joins former CNU greats Abby Hogge and Bailey Jensen as the only Captains to earn All-Region accolades three times. Meanwhile, she and Hogge are the only three-time first-team selections.

Piecing together a masterful senior season, Miller enters the NCAA Tournament ranked second in the Capital Athletic Conference with a 1.09 blocks-per-set average and fourth with a .302 hitting percentage. Her blocking rate also stands as the seventh-highest in CNU history, while her 94 block assists are tied for the eighth-most by a Captain. Overall, she currently boasts 107 total rejections.

Electric throughout the year, Miller has registered 16 double-digit kill efforts, including a season-high 18 blasts against Averett on September 17. She also drilled at least 10 against four NCAA Tournament participants, highlighted by a 14-kill outburst against No. 6 Wittenberg on September 10. Overall this season, she ranks second on the team with 273 kills and a 2.79 blasts-per-set average.

Defensively, Miller joined Bailey Jensen as the only Captains to notch at least 100 blocks in three separate seasons. This year, she leads the team with 107 rejections and has tallied at least five on 10 occasions. Her finest hour came on September 2 when she posted a season-high eight blocks against Stevenson, while she also had seven in back-to-back contests at St. Mary's (Md.) and Marymount to cap off league action two weeks ago.

Honored for her work throughout the year, Miller was named the CNU Invitational Most Valuable Player, earned a spot on the Wisconsin-Whitewater Invitational All-Tournament team, and was selected as the CAC Player of the Week on September 19. Prior to earning All-Region accolades, she was also celebrated as a first-team All-Conference performer earlier this week.

In her career, Miller has scattered her name throughout the CNU record books. The Palmyra native currently sits second all-time with 442 blocks, while her 1,187 kills place her seventh all-time. Meanwhile, her .298 hitting percentage stands as the sixth-highest in program history, and her 1,458 points place her ninth all-time.

Miller and her teammates will return to action on Friday when Christopher Newport opens up the NCAA Tournament with a first-round bout against Johns Hopkins at 12:30 p.m. at Mary Washington's Rosner Arena.
