NEWPORT NEWS, Va.- As Christopher Newport's men's basketball team prepares for its first Final Four ever, sophomore Marcus Carter received another accolade Monday afternoon. Carter, from Bruton High School in Williamsburg, was selected first team All-Region by d3hoops.com.

Carter leads the Captains in scoring this season, averaging 15.9 points per game. He scored 22 points in each of CNU's wins this weekend as the Captains downed Keene State (NH) and Wooster (OH) in Oswego, NY, to reach the Final Four.

The 6-2 sophomore also is averaging 7.1 rebounds per contest and has posted eight double-doubles this season.

The Capital Athletic Conference awarded Carter its Player of the Year honor this season. He was also named Player of the Week twice this year by the CAC.

Christopher Newport, ranked fourth in the country and riding a 21-game winning streak, will play St. Thomas (MN) Friday night at the Salem Civic Center in Salem, VA, in a national semi-final. The winner will advance to the National Championship game Saturday night at 6:00 p.m. in Salem.

The Captains are 30-1, and have set a new school mark for victories in a season.

Players chosen to the D3hoops.com All-Region team are eligible for All-American selection. The men's All-American team will be announced at the end of this week, in conjunction with the Division III men's championships. This is the 15th year D3hoops.com has named an All-Region team and this year's All-America team will be the 19th annual All-Ameircan selections. The D3hoops.com All-American teams, along with those of the respective coaches' associations, are the only ones recognized in the NCAA record book.
