Meaghan Galvin Earns Second-Team IWLCA All-American Honors

GRAND LAKE, Colo. -- Meaghan Galvin became the first Captain in school history to earn All-American honors from the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association after the junior standout secured second-team accolades from the IWLCA following one of the most successful campaigns in the history of the Christopher Newport women's lacrosse program.

Continuing to fill her mantel with an impressive collection of awards, Galvin was previously honored as a first-team All-Conference and All-Region selection. She also became the first player in program history to earn the Capital Athletic Conference's top award after picking up Co-Player of the Year honors for her work during the 2016 campaign.

During her third season with the Captains, Galvin led the conference with 82 draw controls, which also established a new single-season program record. A lethal offensive threat, she also ranked second in the CAC with 72 points, while her 33 assists placed her third overall. Equally effective from the eight-meter arc, she stood second in the NCAA with a .737 free-position percentage. Overall, she converted 14 of her 19 eight-meter shots during the year.

Effective throughout the season, Galvin posted at least one point in 15 of her 16 appearances, including five or more on nine occasions. She opened the year by winning CAC Player of the Week honors following a seven-point outburst in the opener against Shenandoah on February 20. Later, she earned another weekly conference award on March 21 after establishing a new career-high with five assists against Randolph-Macon. That total also tied the seventh-highest single-game total in CNU history.

Along with her award-winning efforts, Galvin matched her career-high with eight points at Frostburg State on March 26 before equaling that effort at Marymount on April 9.

In addition to her work on the offensive end, Galvin registered at least one draw control in all 16 games and had five or more on 10 occasions. She posted a season-high nine draw controls against Lebanon Valley on March 5 and matched that performance with nine more at Wesley on March 12. Those efforts tied the fourth-highest single-game total in program history.

Guided by her performance during the 2016 campaign, Galvin established new career records at CNU with 221 draw controls and 41 free-position goals. Through three seasons, the Arlington native also ranks fifth in program history with 202 career points, sixth with 74 assists, and eighth with 128 goals.

Fittingly, along with rewriting the program record books, Galvin has collected a slew of awards since arriving in Newport News. Along with earning the program's first IWLCA All-American award, she is a three-time first-team All-Conference and All-Region selection. She has also been a first-team All-State pick during each of the last two seasons and was honored as the CAC Rookie of the Year for her performance as a freshman in 2014.
