NFHCA All-American List
GILBERT, Ariz. -- Hauling in top honors from the National Field Hockey Coaches Association,
Rachael Allshouse has been named a first-team All-American after the junior pieced together a decorated season while guiding the Christopher Newport field hockey team to a tremendous 2017 campaign.
Â
Earning a spot on the top squad, Allshouse is just the fourth Captain in program history to collect first-team All-American accolades from the NFHCA. She joins former standouts Jacque Mayer (2007), Caitlin Cahill (2012), and Belle Tunstall (2013) as the program's top honorees.
Â
A lethal threat on the offensive side of the ball, Allshouse paced a potent attack throughout the year. She ranked first on the team and fourth in the Capital Athletic Conference with 13 goals and 30 points. Showing a flair for clutch situations, she also established a new single-season program record with six game-winning strikes.
Â
Consistently effective, Allshouse posted at least two points in 11 of her 19 appearances. The third-year star also added three multi-goal outings during the season, including a pair against NCAA Tournament participants. She lit up Washington & Lee with two strikes on September 23 before coming back with two more tallies against Centre on October 13. Fittingly, she was credited with the game-winning goal in both victories.
Â
Two days after knocking off Centre, Allshouse returned with her final multi-goal effort of the year after collecting two strikes and an assist against Frostburg State on October 15. For that run, she was honored as the CAC Offensive Player of the Week on October 16.
Â
Capping off the regular season in style, she eventually notched at least two points in five straight contests from October 7-21, including a pair of assists against No. 16 York (Pa.) on October 21. That victory over the Spartans locked up the regular season CAC title and the top seed in the conference tournament.
Â
A workhorse, Allshouse eventually finished the year ranked fourth on the team - and first among forwards - with 1,227 minutes of action. She played at least 70 minutes in 13 of her appearances, including 87 in a grueling double-overtime victory against No. 6 Salisbury to win the CAC Championship on November 4.
Â
For her work during the year, Allshouse was previously honored as a first-team All-Conference and All-Region selection.
Â
In three years with the Captains, Allshouse currently ranks eighth in program history with 30 career goals. The Annandale, Virginia native also stands ninth all-time with 68 points and second with 10 game-winning strikes.
Â
Guided by her efforts, Allshouse helped lead Christopher Newport to a 17-2 record and a berth in the NCAA Sweet 16 during the 2017 campaign. Along the way, the Captains claimed the CAC regular season and tournament titles while climbing to fourth in the NFHCA National Coaches Poll.
