Final Results
NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- In their lone home action of the season, the Christopher Newport cross country teams pieced together a string of solid efforts during the CNU Invitational on Saturday afternoon at Lee Hall Mansion.

The majority of the Captains took part in the mixed 3k run to kick off the day. Leading the way, freshman
Clark Edwards established a new course record in the event after finishing the race in 9:03. That shaved 10 seconds off the previous mark of 9:13, which was established by All-American
JJ LaPointe last year.
Â
Headlining the veteran contingent in the 3k,
Cavanaugh McGaw finished second in 9:24, while
Daniel Cretney,
Jason Putnam, and
Joey Lightbody followed in succession and were all within a second of McGaw's clocking. Rounding out the squad's top-seven,
Trejon Edmonds finished in 9:32, and
Michael Carrico crossed in 9:34.

Leading the way on the women's side, freshman
Logan Funk completed the 3k in 11:20. Similar to the men, the veteran portion of the roster followed close behind.
Jessica Lee was the runner-up in 11:36, while fellow junior
Monica Lannen placed third in 11:32.
Samantha Dickerson (11:50) and
Natalie Prye (12:18) rounded out the top-five.

Meanwhile, in the women's 6k,
Magdalena Ralston placed 27th overall in 26:37.
Isabel Hogg was on her heels in 29th (26:45), while
Shannon Woods finished 32nd (27:15) and
Alexis Smith came in 35th (28:07).

In the men's 8k,
Ryan Henderson continued the freshman domination on Saturday as the first-year speedster led the team and placed eighth overall in 28:07. Sophomores
Kyle Doyle and
Ian Dors followed in 11th and 12th, respectively. Doyle finished in 28:46, while Dors threw down a 28:56 clocking.

Rounding out the men's scorers,
Brenton Duvall placed 15th (29:15), and
William Ward was 17th (29:40). Guided by their efforts, the Captains eventually compiled a team score of 16, which led all non-Division I programs at the competition.

Christopher Newport will return to action next Saturday with the Wisconsin-Oshkosh Kollege Town Sports Invitational.
