CNU Track & Field Kicks Off Indoor Season on Sunday with Holiday Open at Freeman Center

Live Results

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. --
Just a week before the start of the university's winter break, the Christopher Newport track & field teams will kick off the indoor campaign as the Captains are slated to host the Holiday Open on Sunday at the Freeman Center.

Events will begin with the men's weight throw at 10 a.m. Track disciplines open with the women's 5,000 at 11 a.m. Overall, the men and women will both take part in 17 different events during the daylong competition.

Sunday's results will be available online for those fans unable to make it to the Freeman Center. Christopher Newport will provide live results throughout the day at CNUsports.com. A direct link to that feature can be found at the top of this release and on the CNU schedule page.

Scheduled to compete in the meet, nearly 70 Captains are currently entered in at least one event on Sunday. The men's contingent includes 40 standouts ready to make their season debut, while 28 women are prepared to take part in the competition.

Especially busy on Sunday, seven Captains are entered in three events apiece. On the men's side, Brandon Berry, Dainen Brass, Uriya Mishor-Ziv, and Kurt Waller all have full slates for CNU. Meanwhile, Trinity Barksdale, Adrianna DeSantis, and Victoria Neston will have equally busy schedules for the women.

Along with Christopher Newport's contingent, nearly a dozen other schools will send representatives to the competition, including fellow CAC member Salisbury.

Needing to replace a decorated collection of senior All-Americans from last year's roster, CNU boasts a talented group of returning standouts. On the men's side, five Captains are back after securing All-Region accolades for their work during the 2017-18 indoor campaign. Berry, Joey Lightbody, Cavanaugh McGaw, Allan Pedin, and Kurt Waller are all looking to build upon strong seasons that saw them earn All-South / Southeast accolades last year.

Deep and talented on the women's side as well, four Captains are back after collecting All-Region nods last year. Hannah Bowden, Monica Lannen, Jessica Lee, and Zoe Stauffer were all celebrated for their efforts last winter.

Eventually, the 2017-18 squads swept the Capital Athletic Conference Indoor Championships. Bowden, Lannen, and Pedin all won individual titles during the competition, while McGaw and Waller made appearances at the NCAA Championships.

Moving forward, the Captains will have the next month off before returning after the winter break for the VMI Keydet Invitational in Lexington beginning on January 18.
