LEXINGTON, Va. -- After more than a month of downtime since their last competition, the Christopher Newport track & field teams will return to action on Friday when the Captains open up the two-day Keydet Invitational at VMI's Corps Physical Training Facility.

Currently, CNU is one of 22 schools scheduled to compete in the meet, including 15 Division I institutions. Friday's action begins at 2 p.m. with the men's weight throw and triple jump as well as the women's 60-hurdles. Saturday opens at 10 a.m. with the men's long jump, shot put, and mile.

Following the lengthy layoff, 39 Captains are scheduled to take part in this week's competition. Among the athletes with busy weekends,
Brandon Berry and
Kurt Waller are both entered in the men's 200, 400, and 4x400-relay, while
Adrianna DeSantis and
Victoria Neston have the same slate on the women's side.
Lindsay Mulhere is also looking to take part in five disciplines for the women, while
Hannah Bowden is scheduled for three events.

Along with the standouts boasting full schedules, five Captains enter the competition ranked in the top-25 nationally in their respective events.
Clark Edwards is currently fifth in the mile, Waller is 16th in the 200, and
Jessica Lee is 25th in the women's 5000. Meanwhile,
Cavanaugh McGaw and
Adam Wosahla both sit in the top-10 in the men's 800 as McGaw is sixth and Wosahla ranks eighth.

Following this week's trip to Lexington, CNU will return home for the Captains Invitational and Combined Events beginning next Friday at the Freeman Center.
