Christopher Newport Sophomore Lincoln Kickbush Named CAC Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- After helping lead the nationally-ranked Christopher Newport men's soccer team to a pair of Capital Athletic Conference victories, sophomore forward Lincoln Kickbush has been named the CAC Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week. Kickbush scored a goal and logged two assists during the week.

Christopher Newport, ranked No. 21 last week, picked up wins against St. Mary's (Md.), 3-1, and at Salisbury, 2-1, during the week to improve to 8-1-3 overall and 5-0-0 in conference play. The Captains are undefeated through the first trip around the league in the double round-robin format this season and have five games remaining in the regular season schedule starting Wednesday.

Kickbush played a pivotal role in the Captains maintaining their position as the top team in the league this week with wins against the Seahawks and Sea Gulls. First, at home against St. Mary's, the sophomore assisted on the first and second goal of the match. The second would hold up as the eventual game-winning goal as his chip back across the middle for Will Collins' header would prove to be an imperative pass. Earlier in the match, Kickbush was in the right spot when he headed a pass to the middle of the box for Cory Hogge, who smashed home the game's first goal.

Then, in a road trip to Salisbury, the Captains sophomore made a nice play for his sixth goal of the season in the 69th minute of action. Making a run down the left side, a pass over the top was intercepted by the Salisbury defense, but Kickbush kept running as the defender tried to head the ball back to the keeper. Showcasing his speed, Kickbush got to the ball first, flicked a shot over the goalkeeper's head and into the back of the net. The Captains would go on to win, 2-1.

For the week, Kickbush took four shots, putting two on frame, helping to lead the Captains offense in five goals scored. He leads the team with 14 points this season on six goals and two assists.

This week, the Captains will stay on the road to face St. Mary's (Md.) on Wednesday, October 16 before traveling to Mary Washington on Saturday, October 19.
