FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- After his performance at the 2019 Don Scalf Invitational last week, Christopher Newport rookie Alex Price has been named the Capital Athletic Conference Men's Golfer of the Week.

Making his collegiate debut in the event, Price fired back-to-back 71's to finish tied for fourth at the 2019 Don Scalf Invitational. His performance led the Captains to a fourth place finish as a team in the 36-hole tournament. Price (-2) is the first rookie to finish his first career tournament under par in at least 15 years as no other Captain has accomplished the feat since statistics were moved online in 2005. 

During the tournament, Price poured in nine total birdies in 36 holes and finished just three strokes behind individual medalist Andre Chi (Methodist). His nine birdies were tied for third most in the 62-player field and he also added 20 pars. 

Price was particularly impressive on the long holes, shooting four-under par on the eight Par 5 holes he played during the week. He tied for second with a 4.50 scoring average on the Par 5's while also playing the Par 3's at Even par. 

The Captains will return to action on October 14-15 at the VSGA Intercollegiate in Blacksburg, Va.
