Marcus Carter has been honored with All-American status for the second time in his illustrious career. Carter, from Williamsburg, was named second team All-American as the Captains prepare to compete in the Final Four in Fort Wayne, Indiana.
Carter becomes just the fourth men's basketball standout to receive All-American honors two times. He joins CNU greats Lamont Strothers, Steve Artis, and Antoine Sinclair as two-time honorees.
Heading into the Final Four, Carter is averaging 16.4 points and 7.2 rebounds per game. He was a first team All-Conference selection this year in the Capital Athletic Conference, and earlier this week was named All-Region in the Mid-Atlantic.Â
Last weekend at Hamilton College in Clinton, NY, Carter led CNU to two NCAA triumphs by scoring 18 points against host Hamilton and 27 vs. Williams. He recorded a career-high 31 points against York (PA) in the CAC Championship on February 23rd..
Carter was selected first team All-American following his sophomore season in 2015-16, when he led the Captains to a 30-2 record and the program's first trip ever to the Final Four. He became the first sophomore in program history to achieve All-American status.
This marks the fourth straight year the CNU men's basketball program has received an All-American honor. Carter was a first team selection in 2015-16, Tim Daly was a first team pick in 2016-17, and
Aaron McFarland was selected first team last year.
Carter was the Rookie of the Year in the CAC in 2014-15, and Player of the Year in the conference in 2015-16. He has set a program record for games played, 124, and has started 117 times.Â
CNU will play Swarthmore Friday night in the national semifinals at Fort Wayne's Memorial Coliseum. Game time is 6:00 p.m.
