FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- Patty Maye Ohanian has been named the Capital Athletic Conference Softball Player of the Week after piecing together a tremendous effort for the Christopher Newport softball team during the squad's twin bill against No. 5 Rowan and McDaniel on Saturday.
Â
The weekly award is the second for Ohanian in her decorated career. She was previously celebrated as the CAC Softball Player of the Week as a freshman on April 9, 2018.
Â
After a nearly three-week hiatus since CNU's last official softball game, Ohanian showed no signs of rust following the weather-related layoff. Starring for the Captains during the doubleheader on Saturday, she was perfect at the plate. She reached base safely in all seven of her plate appearances after finishing 5-for-5 with two walks.
Â
Stuffing the stat sheet, Ohanian also knocked in five runs, scored twice, and swiped a pair of bases during the two games.
Â
Kicking things off against nationally-ranked Rowan, she laced two hits in the 9-0 victory over the Profs, including a two-run single during the second inning. Later in the evening, she came back with three hits in the nightcap against McDaniel. All three of her hits drove in runs, including a pair of two-out singles in the second and fourth.
Â
Overall, the Captains scored in seven different innings during the doubleheader. Incredibly, Ohanian reached base during each of those rallies and either scored or knocked in a run in six of them.
Â
Along with her work at the plate, the second-year star also flashed her wheels on the base paths. She stole a bag during each game and scored all the way from first on a single during a five-run rally in the second inning against McDaniel.
Â
So far this season, Ohanian is hitting .500 during the squad's first four games. The reigning first-team All-American also has a team-best .571 on-base percentage while helping Christopher Newport compile a 3-1 record in the early going.
Â
Ohanian and her teammates will return to action on Wednesday when the Captains travel to N.C. Wesleyan for a doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m.
