LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- After picking up a pair of victories last week, the Christopher Newport men's lacrosse team jumped up four spots in the USILA National Coaches Poll as the Captains placed 14th in the latest rankings, which were announced on Monday morning by the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association.
Christopher Newport earned 157 points in the poll, which slotted them just behind 13th-ranked St. Lawrence. Overall, the No. 14 position equals the highest the Captains have held since they opened the 2019 season ranked 13th in the preseason poll.
At the top of the rankings, Salisbury continues to hold down the No. 1 spot, while Tufts, Williams, RIT, and Denison round out the top-five.
Incredibly, along with the Captains and Sea Gulls, three other programs from the Capital Athletic Conference received votes in the latest poll. York (Pa.) was slotted 11th in the rankings, while St. Mary's (Md.) and Southern Virginia both picked up multiple votes and were placed just outside of the top-20.
Among Christopher Newport's upcoming non-conference foes, Lynchburg is currently ranked 17th in the country, while Dickinson, Washington & Lee, and Colorado College are all receiving votes. Meanwhile, among past opponents, Ursinus moved up to sixth in the national rankings, while Stevenson is now 18th.
Entering the Mustang Classic this week, Christopher Newport currently boasts a 5-1 record, including Saturday's 14-13 triumph over nationally-ranked Stevenson.
