FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- After guiding the Christopher Newport men's indoor track & field program to the Capital Athletic Conference Championship in February,
Tyler Wingard and his assistants were celebrated as the league's Coaching Staff of the Year for their tremendous work throughout the 2020 campaign.
Wingard was previously celebrated as the CAC Men's Indoor Coach of the Year in 2016, 2017, and 2018. He shares the 2020 staff honor with an accomplished collection of assistant coaches, including
Danny Feldman,
Taylor Frenia,
Michael Hanks,
Daniel Read, and
Daulton Teaford. The decorated staff also includes the program's athletic trainer,
Brittaney Lewelling.
Together, the Christopher Newport coaching staff helped the Captains reclaim the CAC Championship, winning the program's fourth indoor title in the past five years. Overall the men walked away with five individual crowns during the league meet and hauled in 11 total All-Conference awards.
Impressive throughout the year, the men's team eventually produced seven All-Region performers, while freshman
CJ Reeders qualified for the National Championships in the triple jump. Additionally, five Captains registered performances that ranked in the top-10 in school history, including
Adam Wosahla, who threw down the program's fifth-fastest 800 clocking at the CNU Qualifier.
Along with the success of the men's team, Wingard and his staff helped lead the women's squad to the CAC Indoor Championship as well. The Captains won three individual titles on the women's side of the meet, and
