NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - A dozen members of the Christopher Newport University football program were honored on Wednesday as the New Jersey Athletic Conference (NJAC) released its annual Academic All-Conference awards. To be eligible for the squad, a student-athlete must be a sophomore, junior, or senior who has competed in a conference-sponsored sport while achieving a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.20. The Captains had three seniors, eight juniors and a sophomore receive honorable mention honors from the league.
Seniors
Austin Brown (Virginia Beach),
Ben James (Virginia Beach, Va.), and
Matt Rittenhouse (Broadway, Va.), received accolades from
Art Link's squad. The eight juniors who achieved conference acclaim from the Captains were
Grayson Bond (Roanoke, Va.),
Brett Bradshaw (Poquoson, Va.),
Brandon Decker (Roanoke),
Jake Herzog (Springfield, Va.),
Jordan Hudson (Dinwiddie, Va.),
Ibrahim Toure (Lorton, Va.),
Walker Venable (Springfield), and
Sean Wilkinson (Vienna, Va.). The lone sophomore to earn the honor was
Alec High (Harrisonburg, Va.).
All first and second-team selections were filled by the league's ten full-member institutions. Christopher Newport competes in only football in the NJAC.
