NORMAN, Okla. -- Becoming just the fifth Christopher Newport student-athlete to garner the recognition, senior William Snyder was named a 2019-20 Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar in an announcement of second wave recognition in July. Snyder was one of 81 additional Division III players to earn the prestigious accolade which helped run the overall total of honored athletes to 1,018. 

To be eligible for Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-America Scholar status an individual must be a sophomore, junior or senior academically in Division I, II, III, and NAIA, or receiving their Associate's Degree and in their last year of athletic eligibility in the NJCAA. In addition, they must have a stroke-average under 76.0 in Division I, 78.0 in Division II, 78.0 in NAIA and 79.0 in Division III, 77.0 in NJCAA, and maintain a minimum cumulative career grade-point average of 3.2. For 2019-20 only, they must participate in 40% of the team's competitive rounds.

Snyder joins a quartet of previously honored Captains including two-time designee Brian Jaeger, Sam Robinson, Chris Brugge, and Kurt Funkhouser. Brugge and Funkhouser were the latest to earn the esteemed recognition when they each accomplished the feat in 2018. 

This season, Snyder played in all nine rounds for the Captains across four events in the Fall. He averaged 77.0 strokes per round and logged a season-best 17th-place finish with a 147 at the VSGA Intercollegiate on October 14-15. He also posted a sub-par round in the Savannah Invitational with a season-low 71 (-1).

The Clifton, Va. native majored in Finance and Accounting.
