Alex Price (-2) leads by two strokes heading into the third and final round on Tuesday at the Tartan Invitational played at the Laurel Valley Golf Club in Pennsylvania. His impressive individual performance through the first two rounds has helped lead the Captains to fourth-place on the team leaderboard with a 38-over 614 (306-308).Â
Price leads Emory's Max Schwarz (E) by two strokes as the only player under par after 36 holes of action on Monday. He paired a dominant two-under first round with an Even par 72 in the second time around the course for a 142 (70-72). Racing to the top of the leaderboard and staying there, Price recorded only six holes over par in the first 36 holes while adding a tournament-best nine birdies.Â
The Captains' left-handed veteran went par-bogey to start the day before taming the rest of the back nine with four birdies and five pars after ten holes. He added his fifth birdie of the opening round on the 534-yard Par 5 third hole to get to four-under at one point. No other golfer in the tournament ever got as low as four-under and only one other player even got to three-under -- Andre Chi (Methodist), who had the first round lead.Â
In the second round, Price opened with a double-bogey on the 440-yard Par 4 ninth hole, but responded quickly with a birdie on the 429-yard Par 4 10th. In his second tour of the course, Price carded four birdies and 11 pars to close out the round with an Even par 72.Â
Also starting the tournament in the top ten was classmate
Robb Kinder (+8), tied for 10th after the first day. Kinder fired a 152 (75-77) and was one of only 24 players in the 66-player field that scored sub-80 in both the first- and second-rounds. He is locked in a five-way tie for tenth after recording five birdies on Monday.Â
Kinder closed out the day with a solid run through the final nine holes. In fact, in his last 11, the junior recorded eight pars and two birdies with just one bogey for a one-under stretch to move up the leaderboard.Â
Making his first career appearance for the Captains, sophomore
Jackson Gessaman slotted in at tied for 32nd with a 148 (80-78). He scored his first career birdie on the 410-yard Par 4 second in the first round and added four more in the second round.Â
Aidan Baron (+19) and
Carrter Morris (+20) each contributed scoring rounds on Monday. Baron signed for an 81 in the first round and Morris matched that performance to serve as a counting score in the second round. Baron is tied for 50th with a 163 (81-82) and Morris is just one stroke back, tied for 55th with a 164 (83-81).Â
