FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- For the fourth time in the last five weeks, a Christopher Newport volleyball player was named the Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week as senior Mackenzie Wright hauled in the honor on Monday afternoon. Wright helped the Captains post a pair of wins this week with a home victory against St. Mary's (Md.) and a road win at Mary Washington. 

Wright joins Noelle Starr as Captains to earn Defensive Player of the Week plaudits this season with the rookie capturing the honor three times prior to this week's recognition. Sammy Carroll has also garnered Offensive Player of the Week to round out the Captains' overall selections in 2021 to six. 

This week, the CNU middle blocker posted six blocks in two matches as she continues to lead the Captains defense at the net with 47 total blocks this year. She added 16 kills and one dig while hitting a team-best .609, raising her team-leading attack percentage to .348 on the year. 

First up, she notched one solo block with nine kills on 11 swings against St. Mary's (Md.). Then, in the road win at Mary Washington she was in on five assisted blocks and added seven kills to account for 9.5 points in the match. 

Christopher Newport improved to 17-3 overall with the two victories and will return to action this Friday, October 15 at No. 12 Juniata College. Opening serve against the Eagles is set for 7:00 pm.
