CNU Men's Soccer Receiving Votes In National Poll; Wednesday Matchup Versus York (Pa.) Canceled

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- For the second straight week the Christopher Newport men's soccer team was receiving votes in the Division III National Rankings released by the United Soccer Coaches and D3soccer.com. The Captains, off to a 4-3-1 start this season, announced a cancellation to the Wednesday evening matchup scheduled against York College of Pennsylvania and will now return to action on Saturday, October 9 against St. Mary's (Md.).

Christopher Newport has been ranked as high as No. 16 in the United Soccer Coaches poll this season. Leading the week 3 rankings is Washington & Lee, who the Captains played earlier this month. CNU also played No. 18 Emory and is slated to take on No. 8 Johns Hopkins later in the season.

With the announcement of Wednesday's cancellation, the next game on the schedule is against another highly-rated team as St. Mary's College of Maryland comes to Captains Field for a Saturday night matchup. The Seahawks have been ranked as high as No. 3 in the nation and are now receiving votes in both Top-25 polls.

CNU is coming off a 2-1 win against the University of Mary Washington. The Captains improved to 4-3-2 overall and extended the team's home unbeaten streak to 17 games dating back to the last home match of the 2018 campaign.
