Carroll Named C2C Tournament MVP; Three Captains Garner All-Tournament Honors

Sammy Carroll was named the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference tournament Most Valuable Player on Sunday as part of the 2021 C2C All-Tournament team. Mackenzie Wright and Maddie Carter joined Carroll as the three CNU representatives on the team. The same trio were named to the C2C All-Conference teams prior to the tournament.

In two tournament matches, Carroll assisted on 95 kills and averaged 9.5 assists per set. She also scored nine points, including seven in the championship match where she had four kills, two service aces, and two block assists. Carroll also did not commit any attacking, ball-handling, or blocking errors in either of the two matches. The junior will take home tournament MVP after being named Capital Athletic Conference player and rookie of the year in 2019.

Mackenzie Wright posted career highs in kills (22) and points (25) in the tournament final against Salisbury. She added 18.5 more points in the semifinal with 15 kills and 3.5 blocks. Wright averaged 4.2 kills per set across the two matches while leading the Captains in kills in the semifinal and tying with Maddie Carter for the team lead in kills in the final.

Maddie Carter also achieved career highs in kills (22) and points (22) in the C2C final. She hit .333 in that match with 22 kills in 60 swings. She finished the tournament averaging 3 kills per set and added a block and an assist in the semifinal win over Mary Washington.

Salisbury's Darian Dimatteo and Angelina Casserly joined Samantha Taylor of UC Santa Cruz and Aidan Finegan of Mary Washington to round out the 2021 C2C All-Tournament team.

The Captains will learn their NCAA Tournament seeding on Monday at 12:30pm. The selection show will be broadcast live on NCAA.com.
