Clark, Hines, Rice, and Wayne Return as Christopher Newport Men's Lacrosse Team Captains for 2022 Campaign

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- For the second year in a row, the Christopher Newport men's lacrosse program will have the same foursome serving as team captains as Andrew Clark, Phoenix Hines, Dylan Rice, and Max Wayne were selected for the leadership role for the upcoming 2022 campaign.

Rice will serve as a team captain for the fourth straight year, while Wayne will hold the prestigious position for the third time in his career. Meanwhile, Clark and Hines return as assistant team captains after filling the same spot during the 2021 season.

Entering his fifth year with the program, Rice already sits atop the program record books with 234 career points and 172 goals. Honored as an All-American during each of his last three seasons, he is also a four-time All-State selection and three-time All-Conference pick for his work on the attack.

Equally successful in the classroom, the Mechanicsville, Virginia native is also a two-time CoSIDA Academic All-American, making him the first male athlete in school history to earn the prestigious award twice.

On the defensive side, Wayne has been an equally dominant figure since his freshman campaign. Over the last four seasons, he has amassed four All-American awards, including a second-team honor from USA Lacrosse Magazine in 2021. Meanwhile, he is also a three-time first-team All-State selection and ranks first in school history with 64 career starts.

Off the field, the Ashburn, Virginia native was named a USILA Scholar- All-American in 2021 while also hauling in first-team CoSIDA Academic All-District plaudits.

Between the pipes, Clark has been a steady performer over the past four years. In 29 career appearances, including six starts, he boasts a .497 save percentage, while his 9.61 goals-against-average stands as the fifth-best in program history. Compiling a 6-1 record during his time in the crease, the Chester Springs, Pennsylvania native is one of just three goalies in school lore to register victories as both a freshman and senior.

Anchoring the midfield as a long-stick specialist, Hines has been an integral part of Christopher Newport's defense and faceoff unit. Tormenting the opposition with relentless pressure, the two-time All-American has 131 caused turnovers, which ranks first on the program's all-time charts. Meanwhile, the Ashburn, Virginia native also sits seventh in school history with 165 ground balls and ninth with 64 appearances.

Christopher Newport is coming off of a record-setting 2021 campaign, which saw the Captains advance to the NCAA Final Four for the first time in school history. Along the way, the Captains compiled a 13-6 record and climbed as high as third in the USILA National Coaches Poll.
