Captains Well Represented on USILA Preseason Men’s Lacrosse All-American Team

LOUISVILLE, Ky. -- Three members of the 13th-ranked Christopher Newport men's lacrosse team earned national recognition from the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association as Brady Altobello, Will Stockhausen, and Max Wayne secured spots on the USILA Preseason All-American Team, which was announced on Friday.

All three Captains earned honorable mention recognition for their efforts. Overall, the preseason honor was the first for both Altobello and Stockhausen, while Wayne was named an Inside Lacrosse Preseason All-American in 2020.

An offensive force since arriving in Newport News, Altobello has been a standout member of the midfield unit since 2019. In two years with the Captains, the All-Conference performer has 63 points, including 37 goals. A consistent presence, he has at least one point in 22 of his 25 career appearances while boasting 11 multi-goal efforts.

During an abbreviated sophomore campaign in 2020, Altobello ranked second on the squad with eight assists while finishing with 16 total points. In the season finale against No. 16 Stevenson on March 7, the Potomac, Maryland native registered five points, including three assists and the game-winning goal. He also had three helpers and a pair of strikes during a dominant showcase against Eastern on March 4 as well.

Equally effective on the midfield unit, Stockhausen has been one of the nation's leading offensive threats over the past three seasons. In 43 career games, he already ranks eighth in school history with 40 assists, while his 2.14 points-per-game average is the ninth highest by a Captain. Incredibly, he has tallied at least one point in his last 31 consecutive appearances, which ranks as the longest scoring streak in program history.

An All-Conference honoree in 2019, Stockhausen continued adding to his impressive legacy during his junior campaign. During each of the squad's six games in 2020, the Mechanicsville, Virginia native had at least a goal and an assist, including a five-point showing at Roanoke on February 19. Overall, he landed a pair of game-winning goals during the season and notched four points during the squad's nationally-ranked victory over Stevenson.

One of the nation's leading defensemen, Wayne has been a cornerstone on the squad's back line over the past three seasons. A two-time All-American and three-time All-State selection, he has already made his presence felt in the history books. Entering his senior season, he boasts 94 career caused turnovers, which is just eight shy of matching the all-time program record. He has also started 45 consecutive games, marking the second-longest streak in school history.

As a junior, Wayne ranked third in the conference with 14 caused turnovers, including four takeaways against No. 16 Stevenson. Overall, the Ashburn, Virginia native forced at least three miscues in four of the team's six contests while also collecting 14 ground balls. For his efforts, he was named a first-team All-State performer and garnered honorable mention Inside Lacrosse All-American accolades.

The 13th-ranked Captains will open the 2021 season on February 26 when Christopher Newport travels to Hampden-Sydney for a 7 p.m. showdown.
