Sophomore Alec Strause Named Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- For the second straight week, a Christopher Newport men's tennis player was named the Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference Player of the Week as Tuesday sophomore Alec Strause was pegged the top player in the league over the last seven days. Strause won both of his matches against Washington & Lee University to help the Captains post a win over a nationally-ranked opponent. 

Christopher Newport played just a single match last week due to a weather-related postponement against N.C. Wesleyan. The Captains took advantage of the added spell and blitzed by the Generals, ranked No. 32 in the most recent ITA/Oracle Division III National Rankings, 6-3. With the selection, Strause 

One of three Captains to win both of their matches on Sunday, Alec Strause helped lead the team to the win with victories at No. 1 doubles and No. 4 singles. 

First, on the top line of doubles action, Strause played with teammate Ryan Macy against Harry Kittredge and Connor Coleman for Washington & Lee. The CNU tandem won, 8-3, and helped the Captains sweep doubles action on the day. Then, he took on Kittredge in the No. 4 singles bout and defeated the Generals first-year by a final count of 6-4, 6-4. 

Strause and the rest of the Christopher Newport men's tennis team will play next at home against Norfolk State University on Saturday, March 27. Match time is set for Noon. The next scheduled match was intended to be the makeup for N.C. Wesleyan, but due to weather and lack of indoor court availability, the match will be postponed again. A date for the makeup is yet to be determined.
