Christopher Newport Cross Country Squads Secure USTFCCCA National All-Academic Team Awards

NEW ORLEANS -- For their tremendous work in the classroom, the Christopher Newport men's and women's cross country teams both secured the country's highest academic honor as the Captains received the National Academic Team Award from the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

The award is bestowed upon those programs that have attained at least a 3.1 cumulative grade point average through the fall semester.

On the women's side, the Captains secured the honor for the third consecutive year and the 12th time since 2007. Overall, the squad compiled a 3.33 cumulative GPA, which was the program's highest mark since 2013.

Meanwhile, the men also earned the award for the second straight season. Christopher Newport finished the fall with a 3.39 GPA. That marked the second-highest attained by the program in the past decade.

Under the guidance of second-year head coach Danny Feldman, the Captains are the reigning conference champions on the women's side, while the men placed second at the most recent league meet.
