WILLIAMSBURG, Va. --
The Christopher Newport track & field teams will take part in the 55th annual Colonial Relays this week when the Captains head up to Williamsburg for the historic competition, which begins on Friday at Zable Stadium and the Stimson Throws Area.

Hosted by William & Mary, the Colonial Relays will once again feature top-flight competition from multiple levels of the NCAA. Although fewer teams are able to take part this year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, 10 Division I programs and three Division III schools will have representatives at the two-day competition. Overall, men's and women's champions will be crowned in 21 disciplines during the meet.

Nearly 60 Captains are currently scheduled to compete at the Colonial Relays. Although visiting spectators are not allowed to attend the competition, William & Mary will provide live results at TribeAthletics.com. A direct link can be found at the top of this release and on the schedule page.

Entering the weekend, six Captains are ranked among the top-20 nationally in their respective events. Headlining the contingent, Kaitlyn Ardrey is seventh in the 5000 (17:56.04) and 14th in the 1500 (4:49.57). Meanwhile, Maddy Rawlings and Maggie Ralston also sit among the national leaders in the 10,000. Rawlings is 17th with a 41:39.77 mark, while Ralston is 20th with a 41:41.58 clocking.

Rounding out the elite distance runners on the women's side, Alexis Smith is 13th in the country in the steeplechase after crossing the line in 11:52.56 during the UMW Opener earlier this month.

Meanwhile, in field events, CJ Reeders and Zoe Stauffer have been outstanding in the early going for the Captains. Reeders is fourth in the men's triple jump with a 14.27-meter effort. On the women's side, Stauffer is 17th in the country with a 37.05-meter launch in the javelin.

In addition to the Colonial Relays, Christopher Newport will also send a small contingent of student-athletes to the Marlin Invitational in Virginia Beach on Saturday. Live results will also be available for that competition and can be accessed by using the link at the top of this release.

Following this weekend's slate, the Captains will return to action on April 9 for the start of the two-day Aggie Invitational, which will be hosted by North Carolina A&T in Greensboro.
