NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- Returning home for the first time since March, the Christopher Newport track & field teams will host the two-day Captains Classic & Combined Events beginning on Friday at TowneBank Stadium.
Â
The competition begins with the start of the pentathlon and heptathlon on Friday at 4 p.m. The men's hammer and women's javelin are slated to begin at the same time. Meanwhile, Saturday's action kicks off with multiple track and field events at 11 a.m.
Â
Overall, the meet will crown victors in 22 women's events and 21 men's disciplines during a jam-packed schedule of exciting action. In addition to Christopher Newport, four other schools are expected to take part in the meet, including Coast-to-Coast Conference rivals Mary Washington and Salisbury.
Â
Adhering to the campus COVID-19 guidelines, access to the meet will be limited to two designated family members of each athlete and coach on Christopher Newport's roster along with a select number of students and staff from the university. Opposing fans and other interested parties will not be permitted to attend the competition. For specific details on the spectator guidelines, please read the athletic department's 2021 spring sports policy, which is available at the top of this release.
Â
For those fans unable to attend the meet, live results and a video stream will be available at CNUsports.com. Direct links to both features can be found at the top of this release and on the schedule page.
Â

Jack Armel,
James Baptist, and
Riley Park are set for the decathlon.
Â
Entering the meet, 10 Captains are ranked among the top-50 nationally in their respective events. Headlining the group,
Kaitlyn Ardrey sits 17th in the 5000 and 45th in the 1500. Among other top-20 performers,
Alexis Smith is 11th in the women's steeplechase, and
CJ Reeders is 11th in the men's triple jump. Reigning Conference Track Athlete of the Week
Daniel Fox is also just outside that group in the 100 meters after throwing down a time of 10.82 last week at the Aggie Invitational. That places him 21st in the nation.
Â
Following this week's meet, Christopher Newport will hit the road for the UMW Eagle Invitational on April 24 in Fredericksburg. That will be the squad's final tune-up before the Coast-to-Coast Conference Championships, which will take place at Salisbury beginning on April 30.
