FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- For their final tune-up before next week's Coast-to-Coast Conference Championships, the Christopher Newport track & field teams will head to the UMW Eagle Invitational on Saturday for a dual meet with Mary Washington at the Battleground Athletics Complex.
The meet gets underway with field events beginning at 11 a.m. Track disciplines open at 12:30 p.m.
Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, Mary Washington is not permitting spectators to attend its home competitions this spring. However, the Eagles will provide live results of Saturday's meet at UMWEagles.com. A direct link can be found at the top of this release and on the schedule page.
Currently, 35 Captains are scheduled to take part in this weekend's competition. Among the participants, Christopher Newport will send an impressive contingent of sprinters to Fredericksburg. On the men's side,
Brandon Berry ranks second in the league in the 200, while
Collin Stubbs is 10th in the event.
Dainen Brass also sits in the top-10 in both the 200 and 400. Meanwhile, on the women's side,
Abigail Schugeld is ranked in the league's top-10 in the 100, 200, and 400, while
Hannah Gentrup also slots among the leaders in the latter two events.
Ethan Anderson is also in the top-10 in a variety of disciplines, including the high jump and both the 110- and 400-hurdles.
Among other top-ranked competitors currently scheduled for the meet,
CJ Reeders is first in the conference in both the men's long and triple jumps, and
Zoe Stauffer is second in the women's javelin. In other field events,
Joe Kilama is second in the men's hammer and third in the discus, while
Mazie Clark has filled out her résumé as one of the conference's top performers in the hammer, shot, and discus.

Following Saturday's action, Christopher Newport will begin final preparations for the Coast-to-Coast Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships, which will be held at Salisbury beginning on April 30.
