FREDERICKSBURG, Va. -- Behind 14 victories and a pair of historic efforts, the Christopher Newport track & field teams orchestrated a solid showing in their final tune-up before the Coast-to-Coast Conference Championships as the Captains starred on Saturday during the UMW Eagle Invitational at the Battleground Athletic Complex.
Â
Winning the majority of events in which they entered at least one competitor, the Captains pieced together a well-balanced effort during the meet. Headlining the action,
Mazie Clark and
Joe Kilama both climbed the program's all-time charts in a throwing event.
Â
On the men's side, Kilama won the hammer with a 44.53-meter heave. That moved him to eighth on the program's all-time performance list. Meanwhile, in the women's shot put, Clark unloaded an 11.90-meter toss, which established a new PR and marked the ninth-best effort by a Captain.
Â
In addition to his work in the hammer, Kilama won the discus with a 39.30-meter launch.
CJ Reeders also chipped in with a pair of victories in individual events. The second-year star captured the long jump with a 6.44-meter effort before winning the triple jump with a 14.07-meter distance.
