OWINGS MILLS, Md. -- Due to COVID-19 complications at Endicott College, the Christopher Newport men's lacrosse team's NCAA Tournament game against the Gulls has been declared a no-contest, and the ninth-ranked Captains will now begin the national playoffs on Sunday with a second-round bout against either No. 12 Stevenson or Kean at Mustang Stadium in Owings Mills, Maryland.
As a result of difficulties arising from the ongoing pandemic, Endicott withdrew from the NCAA Tournament to ensure the highest possible level of health and safety for all parties involved.
Christopher Newport, who earned an at-large bid to the postseason after compiling an 11-5 record, will now open the playoffs on Sunday at 1 p.m. The Captains will face the winner of a first-round tilt between Stevenson and Kean, which will take place on Saturday at noon.
The survivor of Sunday's second-round battle will advance to the NCAA Quarterfinals, which will be held on May 22 at Salisbury's Sea Gull Stadium.
