Zoe Stauffer Repeats as a CoSIDA Academic All-American

2021 CoSIDA Track & Field Academic All-Americans

GREENWOOD, Ind. --
For the second straight year, Zoe Stauffer earned a spot on the CoSIDA Academic All-American squad after the Christopher Newport track & field standout hauled in second-team plaudits from the College Sports Information Directors of America for her outstanding efforts both in and out of the classroom.

Placing her name among the elite student-athletes in school history, Stauffer became just the fourth Captain in any sport to receive a pair of Academic All-American honors. She joins track & field Hall of Famer Casey Taylor (1999, 2000), women's soccer standout Carson Pokorny (2017, 2018, 2019), and current men's lacrosse star Dylan Rice (2020, 2021) as the university's only multi-time award-winners.

In addition to joining a rarefied group at Christopher Newport, Stauffer was also just one of 14 women from around the nation to earn the honor for the second straight year in 2021. The Spring Grove, Pennsylvania native previously picked up third-team accolades for her work in 2019-20.

Prior to earning Academic All-American plaudits this year, Stauffer was previously celebrated as an Academic All-Conference, All-State, and All-District selection. A cellular, molecular, and physiological biology major, she also secured USTFCCCA National All-Academic honors and was named the Coast-to-Coast Conference Track & Field Scholar-Athlete of the Year for her academic endeavors as a senior.

Stockpiling awards during her four years in Newport News, Stauffer graduated in the spring as a four-time Academic All-Conference honoree, a three-time Academic All-District selection, and a two-time Academic All-American.

Along with her scholarly pursuits, Stauffer was equally celebrated as a multi-talented track & field standout. A legend in the combined events, she earned All-Region nods in the heptathlon during the spring after posting a season-best score of 3,990 at the New Captains Classic. That effort ranked third in the South / Southeast Region and 41st in the entire NCAA.

Stauffer also collected an All-League citation in the 400-hurdles after placing second in the event during the Coast-to-Coast Conference Outdoor Championships with a time of 1:08.93. Additionally, she scored in three other events during the league meet after placing third in the javelin and sixth in both the 100-hurdles and long jump. Her season-best throw of 37.18 meters in the javelin at the New Captains Classic also marked the second-best performance in the league during the 2021 campaign.

During her illustrious career, Stauffer compiled five All-Region awards after earning a pair of accolades in both the pentathlon and heptathlon while garnering one in the javelin. She was also a league champion in the javelin during her sophomore season and a three-time recipient of the conference's Field Athlete of the Week award.

Securing her place in the history books, Stauffer wrapped up her tenure ranked second in school lore in the javelin after unloading a 39.63-meter heave at the Williams Final Qualifier in 2019. Her personal-best score of 4,138 in the heptathlon also slots her seventh on the program's all-time performance list.
