Christopher Newport Women's Soccer Earns United Soccer Coaches Team Academic Award for Fifth Straight Year

Complete List

ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- The United Soccer Coaches announced on Thursday the Team Academic Award winners at the high school and collegiate levels, recognizing exemplary performance in the classroom during the 2020-21 academic year. The nationally-ranked Christopher Newport women's soccer program was listed among the 602 collegiate soccer teams to earn the Team Academic Award for the 2020-21 academic year.

It marks the fifth consecutive season and sixth time in program history that the CNU women's soccer team has been recognized by the national coaches' association for overall academic success as a program. Teams that posted a grade point average of 3.0 or higher were honored with 602 total and 382 women's teams from around the nation.

The Christopher Newport women's soccer team was selected by the College Athletic Advisor as one of the "Programs that Inspire" last year and also garnered the United Soccer Coaches Team Pinnacle Award. The Pinnacle Award is bestowed to teams that have achieved a high level of fair play, educational excellence, and success on the pitch. The College Athletic Advisor distributed their accolades as a means to highlight programs that may not be widely publicized despite having achieved consistent elite status in competition and in elevating the lives of participating student-athletes.

A remarkable 27 CNU women's soccer players were named to the 2020-21 Coast-To-Coast Athletic Conference All-Academic Team. The conference All-Academic Team honors student-athletes who finish the academic year with a 3.20 grade-point average or better while participating in one or more of the CAC Championship sports. That impressive group included four players who earned four-time Academic All-Conference selections in Montana Coward, Haley Eiser, Maddie Kelsey, and Lulu Manley

Eiser, the starting goalkeeper for Christopher Newport this season, was also selected as a Scholar All-Region pick in 2019.

The United Soccer Coaches College Women's Team Aademic Award was instituted in 1996; to qualify for the award, a team must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 to be eligible.
