CNU Cheerleading Welcomes Back Emily Davenport as Assistant Coach in 2021-22

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- Christopher Newport University head cheerleading coach Erica Flanigan has announced the addition of alumna Emily Davenport ('19) to the coaching staff for 2020-21.

"I am blessed for this opportunity to give back to the cheerleading program and community of Christopher Newport as they have provided me with so much over the course of my CNU career," said Davenport. "I am honored and ready to help lead CNU cheer to be successful student-athletes."

A native of nearby Poquoson, Va., Davenport attended Christopher Newport from 2016-19. In her three years as a student at Christopher Newport, she helped lead the Captains to three national championships, including as a senior when she was named a team captain.

Emily has cheered for over 15 years and has been coaching the All-Star level for five years.

Christopher Newport Cheerleading has won four Cheer Ltd College Open National Championships with the first in 2014 and three consecutive from 2017-19. The Captains have never finished lower than third at nationals since Coach Flanigan took the helm prior to the 2006 season.
