NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - Christopher Newport sophomore quarterback Matt Dzierski has received another weekly honor. The Lorton, Va., product was selected Wednesday to this week's College Player of the Week honor roll by the DC Touchdown Club for his performance this past weekend.

Dzierski led the Captains to a season-opening home victory over Washington and Lee at TowneBank Stadium Saturday, 28-24. He threw for two touchdowns and ran for two more in his first career start. Dzierski's second rushing TD of the night, a six-yard effort with just 39 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter, proved to be the winning score of the game.

The South County High School graduate completed 29 of 39 pass attempts for 266 yards and also ran the ball 14 times for 47 yards. He was chosen as the New Jersey Athletic Conference's Player of the Week on Sunday.

Christopher Newport (1-0) will travel to Danville, Va., on Saturday to play Averett University (0-1). The game is set to start at 6:00 p.m.
